New Service!! Stock refinishing now being offered.
12 August 2024HW35 refinishing#1.
26 August 2024The first recipient of our refinishing service, a beech Stutzen stock. The non-original finish was patchy and had fibres imbedded in the dried oil finish, and was quite rough to the touch in some places. The finish was removed with solvent, and the whole stock rubbed down (the schnabel tip was in good order, so it and the recoil pad were masked off) with progressively finer grades of abrasive paper.
Once the smoothness and general appearance was acceptable, fine wire wool was used after damping the stock to raise fibres.
Stain was then applied and built up in coats until a rich warm colour was achieved. Once this was dried, linseed oil has been had rubbed in and built up over a number of days, allowing time to be absorbed and to dry in between.
The end result is a dramatic improvement, There are a couple of detail jobs to do on the action peripherals during reassembly at which point the job will be complete.
