When we service an air gun, we always give the piston a full work over.

Each piston will be removed and degreased and thoroughly inspected. If there is significant damage we will recommend replacement (this is seldom needed, unless brutal removal methods have been employed in the past!).

Latch rods are checked for concentricity, any damage/scoring will be reduced as much as possible and the cocking slot etc. will be deburred, then the surface will be sanded with successively finer grades of abrasive prior to final polishing:
