New arrivals!!!
13 March 2025Refinishing metalwork and stock on the Junior
13 March 2025
The starting point- Webley Junior
This little 1950-1960 junior rifle is in pretty poor order showing signs of damp storage.
When tested the pellets were bouncing off the paper target (that I had to aim 1 foot above it to hit it at 15 yards!). When put over the chronograph it was making 0.6ft/lb of muzzle energy! This should be 4-5ft/lb on a healthy example.
On pulling it apart, all was well inside, apart from being devoid of any type of lubricant, and the breech seal was completely worn away, explaining where all the power was going. The metalwork is very rusty and the stock was very dry and faded.

Cylinder rust

Rusty!!!

Imaginary breech seal!!!

Stripped!
Now to refinish the metalwork (there is significant pitting, so I will be going for reducing the visual impact of the corrosion and bluing to an overall consistent patina), then the woodwork, which will be stripped back, re-stained and then finished with a satin sheen oil.
